Why is My Child Acting Out?

Why is My Child Acting Out?

Have you noticed a change in your child’s mood as of late? There can be numerous reasons for this and here are some of the potential causes that you might want to consider keeping in mind.

This is a contributed post and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Meet The Harris Family.

Drugs

You do have to be prepared for the possibility that your child is using. Drug use in children and teens is far more common than most parents would be willing to admit. One of the signs of drug use is always going to be a change in mood. This can be sudden or gradual depending on the drugs that they are using. It’s important to note that kids who are involved with drugs will usually be exploring different illegal activities as well. For instance, many steal to pay for their addiction. If you do find that this is the cause of the change, it is important to contact a legal support team and explore sites like benfieldlegal.com for expert help.

Abuse

It’s also possible that a child is acting out because they are being abused by someone in their life. This could be physical or sexual. It could be someone they know and someone they trust. While this is a terrifying thought, it can not be ruled out with thousands of cases reported every year and many more remaining secret for generations. A child in this position will feel completely helpless and will act out to deal with the situation. They will often not disclose what is happening due to fear, embarrassment or potentially shame. You need to make sure that you are providing the right support that they need to get through this situation and deal with it the right way.

Bullying

Bullying is another problem that is more common than most parents are able or indeed willing to admit. With bullying, the problem is always going to be understanding why it is happening and just how severe the situation is. Bullying can be as silly as name calling but it can cause horrendous effects. It’s not uncommon for a child who is bullied to feel suicidal and completely broken due to the impact of being bullied. It’s important that you are always there for them to talk to and as a shoulder for them to lean on. Remember, if they feel as though things are beyond their control at school, they will always lash out at home.

Hormones

It is worth noting that in some cases it’s not going to be a serious issue at all. It could be completely natural caused by hormones that are swirling around. Passing through puberty can bring a whirlwind of emotions that both parents and children are often not prepared for at all. You might want to think about this if they do seem to be shouting for no reason and lashing out at you. You’ll hear a lot of doors being slammed but it doesn’t necessarily mean that your child is unhappy or dealing with any of the serious issues we mentioned above.
