Planning a Summer Wedding

Summer weddings are a celebration of love and life, but they can also be stressful. The weather is usually unbearably hot and it’s often difficult to find a location that isn’t overcrowded with other summer weddings. For many couples, the stress of organizing a summer wedding seems like too much work for such little reward.

This is a contributed post and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of Meet The Harris Family.

While some couples don’t mind the hustle, others may want to take advantage of what other summer wedding celebrants have said about scheduling a ceremony under the scorching heat of the sun.

When is the best wedding month?

Ask anyone, and they’ll swoon over June as being the best wedding month. We have age-old traditions and modern trends to thank for that. Historically, June was named after Juno, the Roman goddess of marriage and families. Those who married in her season were believed to have had longer and more fruitful unions.

In terms of temperature, June weather tends to be a little more bearable than the latest months of summer, but that’s not to say that it won’t get hot during this time of year. Judging by how temperatures are rising globally, summer this year might hit high double digits unexpectedly, and get equally unbearable as July and August.

However, just because June is the hottest month for your wedding doesn’t mean you have to put your ceremony on hold until cooler weather rolls in. Your first summer as a married couple could still end up being one of the most memorable if you plan ahead!

What to Expect at a Summer Wedding

Some flowers dry out faster than others under the heat of the sun

The first thing you’ll notice is that some flowers are less expensive during this time of the year. The second thing you’ll notice is that those flowers wilt faster than usual, hence the price.

This also means that some floral arrangements will be affordable and easily accessible, not to mention more abundant. The downside, however, is that they might only last for a day or two before wilting away. One way to slow down the wilting is to keep your wedding venue air-conditioned throughout the day.

Call the most vetted AC rental company in your location. Let them know your expectations and how you envision your big day to be. Let them know you want to keep flower arrangements upright and fresh for as long as possible.

It’s the best time for alfresco dining, but the heat can take the magic away

It’s the perfect time for alfresco receptions, and the best part about having them in the summer is that the chance of rainfall is low. If your venue is located somewhere picturesque, guests will be able to enjoy the outdoor ambiance more!

But, alfresco dining is not synonymous with dining under the sun. Make sure to ask your wedding planner to set up a tent and to beautify the said tent with season-appropriate décor. Many summer weddings have ended horribly because of couples and wedding planners forgetting that eating under the sun can be uncomfortable, and not to mention doing so increases the risk of heatstroke.

If you’re worried about guests leaving home early because they’re sweating too much in their suits and dresses, don’t fret– there are plenty of ways to keep the environment cool for everyone. You can choose a venue that is partly shaded, or you may choose to dine under a gazebo, instead of the open air.

Alternatively, having the reception in a fully air-conditioned room is your best answer to this problem.

Be careful with choosing wines for the summer.

Consult with a wine expert when choosing the best wines for your celebration. Unknown to many, the reddest wine you can find at the store might not always be the best wine to toast with in a warm environment. This is the reason why many restaurants serve Rose in the summer: it’s more pleasant on the throat when the air is dry and the sun is at its warmest.

However, if you have an open bar that serves a wider variety of drinks, consider having cocktail hour in an enclosed, air-conditioned space.

Better yet, consider getting the best AC rental services in your area. Spare nothing when it comes to making your guests comfortable; otherwise, they’ll look back on your wedding as probably one of the most beautiful, yet the most uncomfortable they’ve been to. That’s not the memory you’d want to leave your closest family and friends.

It’s possible to rent out a commercial air conditioning unit for a day and have it delivered to the location of your choice. The ceremony will be much more comfortable and you’ll feel refreshed during photos or after the ceremony is over.
