If your baby is not sleeping, then you are not going to be getting much sleep either. The solution to getting a restful night’s slumber is, of course, to get your baby to drift off. However, this is a lot easier said than done! Fear not, though, as you will find plenty of effective suggestions below that should help you get your baby to sleep once and for all.

Understand how your baby sleeps
– The first thing you need to do is understand how a baby sleeps. If your baby fights sleep, it could be because you have kept him or her awake for too long. A lot of parents do this because they assume that it will eventually tire their baby out and they will sleep the whole night through. However, this actually causes over-stimulation, and it is likely that your baby will struggle to fall asleep and they will find it difficult to stay asleep. So, what do you need to do? Encourage feedings and lots of naps during the day. You do not want to keep your baby awake for long stretches. However, what you can do is limit the length of the naps in order to support nighttime sleep. So, do not limit the naps themselves, but the time for which your baby naps.

– Another way that you and your partner can make sure that you get some sleep is to use white noise to encourage your baby to drift off. You can use a white noise machine, or there are other approaches that will create the same effect, for example,sing a regular fan and turning it on medium. This approach can also be beneficial when you are travelling.
Dream feed
– This is a term that is used to describe the feed a baby receives just before you go to bed. This is used to stop your baby from waking up just after you finally drift off to sleep. In the first few months of your baby’s life, this is a good way to get a newborn to sleep for longer so that you can actually get some rest.
Swaddle
– Some parents are fans of swaddling, and others are not. However, there is no denying that this is a good way to get your baby to fall asleep. It makes them feel snug and calms them down. Nevertheless, as soon as your child can roll, you need to stop using the swaddle because it can be dangerous.
