A bed should be the most comfortable place in the house. It’s our place to rest after a long day, and when it’s dirty or cluttered, we could end up with restless sleep. Coming home to a dirty or cluttered bed adds exhaustion after a long day of work. Sometimes, you can even end up being more tired instead of being well-rested after you wake up.

Keeping your bed clean takes more than just pushing the clutter off and dusting the crumbs away. If you want your bed to be truly clean and conducive to a good night’s sleep, here are some things you should include in your routine:

  1. Know when to replace your mattress

When your bed is more than 10-15 years old, it’s time to pay a visit to a popular bed shop in Dartford or any other city. Keeping an old mattress is not only bad for your back, but it’s also home for all sorts of bacteria that has collected over the years. Hence, if your mattress is already past its lifespan, don’t hesitate to get a new one.

The habit of making your bed after you wake up is not only good for your morning mood, but it’s also a sure way to come home to a relaxing space after work or school.

  1. Launder linens regularly

Even they don’t look like it, our blankets, pillowcases, and duvets accumulate more germs than you think. Wash your linens at least once a week according to the manufacturer’s instructions. In this way, dust, bacteria, sweat, and dead skin cells won’t gather on your sheets and cause health problems, such as allergies and skin rashes.

A bed is a comfortable place to eat and drink, but spilling food or beverages on your bed is a huge inconvenience. Avoid eating or drinking on your bed to avoid making a mess. Similarly, ban other people from eating or drinking on your bed, even if it’s just a snack with no crumbs.

Include vacuuming your mattress in your weekly cleaning routine to remove dirt, dead skin cells, dust mites, and other physical contaminants from your bed.

Most of us have a habit of using our bed as a table or a second closet, which does nothing but clutter our supposed resting space with unnecessary stuff. If you do this, kick the habit by only using your bed as a place to sleep, not as an area to store clothes, books, or other unnecessary items.

In general, you should rotate or flip your mattress at least once every three months or one year, depending on the manufacturer’s instructions (check the tag). Flipping your mattress doesn’t do much to keep it clean, but it helps to keep your back properly aligned every time you sleep.

  1. Deep clean

Weekly vacuuming can only do so much for your mattress. That said, deep cleaning is necessary every once in a while.

To deep clean your mattress, take a box of baking soda and sprinkle the whole thing on your bed. Rub it into the mattress and leave it on for at least an hour. Then, remove the baking soda with a vacuum, and repeat the process once every six months.
