Summer is coming up, which means fun under the sun with the family, barbecue parties on the porch, and fun scavenger hunts with the kids. While the world is slowly opening up again, and we might see a return to normal soon, we also can’t deny that we will still spend a lot of time at home with the family during the warmer months. If you have a backyard and want to create something that can elevate it in preparation for the summer, here are some fun backyard ideas you can DIY with your family.

Stylish privacy fence
If you don’t have a fence around your backyard and your neighbors can see into your property, consider building a stylish slab that can also double as a gorgeous backdrop for your seating area. You can build a horizontal slat fence and give it a wood-stained look. To add more style to the privacy fence, you can hang some yellow string lights, gorgeous planters, lots of greenery, and even colorful flowers. Couple it with a cozy sofa, chic coffee table, plush throw pillows, and fuzzy blankets. You got yourself and your family a wonderful space to have meals outdoors. But before spending more time outdoors, don’t forget to hire the best pest control experts to ensure that you, your family, and your guests are safe from harmful mosquitoes.
Stock tank backyard pool
Nothing refreshes the body during scorching hot afternoons more than a fun dip in the pool. But while not all of us have the budget to invest in a big swimming pool right now, it doesn’t mean we’re completely exempt from the fun and relief of a backyard pool. A stock tank pool is made of galvanized steel, and it’s usually round. It’s an affordable way to put a swimming pool in your yard minus the stresses and hard renovation of having a pool built. These DIY pools don’t take up a lot of space and can sit anywhere in your yard-from your patio or deck or even straight on the grass. You can also paint it a nice color so that it matches your backyard’s style and décor. It’s a wonderful way to add a farmhouse feel to your property.
Pergola swing
Remember when all the kids would fight over the swings in the playground? Now that you’re an adult, you don’t need to fight for one, let alone go to a playground to enjoy the pure bliss of this childhood staple. If you have space in your yard that you don’t know what to do with, consider investing in repurposed or reclaimed wood and make a pergola swing out of it. All you need to do is dig holes that are deep enough to support the swing, set the posts in concrete, and assemble the beams, hardware, and seat, and you’re all set. It can be a fun weekend hobby you can do with your handyman partner or a friend who has a knack for building things around the home. You can also incorporate some pillows and plants to ensure that your pergola swing is as cozy as can be.
Cozy fire pit patio
If you live in a state with a colder climate, even during summer, consider incorporating a cozy fire pit into your yard or patio. If you have a corner in your yard that you don’t know what to do with, consider adding a small patio with tiles and invest in one of those fire pit tables. Add in some plush chairs, have some wine, and spend quality time under the stars and beside the fire with your loved ones.
Awning style canopy
Add some whimsy and romance to your home by building a rustic-style table and bench using reclaimed or repurposed wood and positioning them under a white canopy with golden string lights. To amp up your awning style canopy, you can also build your candle holder and hang it on the roof like a chandelier. The combination of rustic furniture, white canopy, and warm-toned lights will give you and your guests a romantic yet whimsical place to have dinner during the pandemic, and the best part is that it’s a fairly easy setup to make.
Final Thoughts
Sprucing up your yard need not be expensive, nor do you need to hire handymen to do it for you. With enough research and the right materials, you can create some DIY projects in your yard that will make your summer more fun and add value to your home, too.
