How Your House Warns You of Unseen Dangers

House dangers

If you are someone who is well versed in food preparation, you should know about Salmonella. This group of bacteria is known to be found in poultry and can cause intestinal problems such as diarrhea. People are always advised to cook chicken meat thoroughly to avoid this. There is another group of bacteria that sounds similar called Legionella. Those infected by this may get afflicted with Legionnaire’s disease. It has far more serious effects where patients can suffer something as bad as pneumonia.

This is a contributed post and does not necessarily reflect the opinions of Meet The Harris Family.

Legionella can be found in bodies of freshwater. It is not limited to outdoor environments, though. To be sure, it would be ideal to look for a company that offers Legionella testing in Kent. Your house waterworks can also be a potential breeding ground for it, so you’d better keep your faucets and shower heads clean by doing regular maintenance on them. But aside from those, there are other telltale signs of potential dangers around the house that you need to keep your eyes peeled for.

Mold

This is a type of fungus that thrives on moist surfaces. When you enter the bathroom, mold usually accumulates at the corners of your shower area. It can also form in the gaps of the floor and wall tiles. It takes some time for mold to build up, so your best defense is to do regular cleaning.

Make sure that you are well protected when you start this work. Put on some gloves, goggles, and a mask that can cover your mouth from water splashes. Your weapons to fight against mold are bleach and a lot of scrubbing. It is going to be a physical workout for you, but you are rewarded with a cleaner house. As you know, mold can be a source of allergies and different illnesses, so it is best to keep it at bay.

Mildew

Mildew

This is very similar to mold in that it also grows on moist surfaces, but it differs in how it looks. It looks more like a white powdery substance. You tend to find mildew on top of cabinets, storage boxes, and old tables. It can be cleaned more easily than mold. Light scrubbing and dusting will mostly do the job of eradicating mildew.

Cockroach Eggs

These appear as little dark oblong beads. If you find these anywhere in your house, most likely there are more of them in places you cannot see or reach. Cockroaches are very notorious for being carriers of many diseases. They are the reason you need insecticide in your house. They can also be very tough to kill, so make sure that you ready yourself with a weapon to hit them if needed, as spraying would not be enough.

Termites

If you have wooden floors, you might be curious about those tiny little hills made of wood dust. Sorry to break it to you, but your house has termites. They are small but terrible and chomp on wood like there is no tomorrow. You’d better call an exterminator to help you out with this problem.

As with our bodies, your home can also give out warning signs if there is something wrong with them. You need to be aware of these signs so that you would know what to do. This will keep your home and your family safe from unseen harm.
