Make sure you have a suitable car

I 100% believe it makes sense to hire a big car for your road trip. Get a nice big family car with enough space for everyone to feel comfortable. This is an absolute necessity if you have a family of 4 or 5, and you normally drive two small cars. Get a bigger one, and avoid so much discomfort.

This will reduce the amount of nagging from your kids, and you should also find it easier to relax and not feel claustrophobic. Of course, if you have a family of 3, then you may already have a suitable car with room in the front two seats and a whole row of seats in the back for your lucky child to stretch out on.

Avoid driving at night

There’s no real reason for you to drive at night during your road trip. You have endless hours during the day, so drive then!

I’ve got one main reason why driving at night will make your road trip worse; there’s more chance of accidents. Other drivers are more reckless at night because they could be sleepy, or worse, intoxicated. You’re more likely to be involved in a drunk driving accident during the evening than during the day. This can lead to all sorts of problems and legal issues, which you can see more here if you’re interested. Tiredness is also a killer – other drivers could be tired and present a risk to your family, or you could be tired behind the wheel. So, don’t take the risk; drive when it’s light out and rest when it’s dark!

Pick a good route

As the old saying goes; your road trip is only as good as your route. Okay, I made that up on the spot, but it sounds like it could be a good saying, right? The fact is; you need to know where you’re going and how you’ll get there. Otherwise, you end up driving aimlessly and getting lost down dodgy roads or lanes.

If you have a look online, you will see so many road trip routes for families all across the country. Or – I can’t believe I’m only just thinking about this now – you could go on a road trip while you’re on vacation in a different country! Again, check online for great routes within that country, and you’ll have an amazing time.
