The summer holidays are here and if you are a student, the long summer break gives plenty of opportunity to earn some much needed cash. As summer is a season for enjoying yourself too, it would be a good idea to look at work opportunities that allow you the option of travel or learning new skills. You have so many choices, the hard part will be deciding which one to choose!

Although being a cocktail waiter in the med sounds glamorous, there’s no getting away from the fact that work is just that – work! You will need to put the hours in, often for low pay. Try to choose something that you’ll get something back from, whether it’s a fab social life and a tan or the opportunity to visit new places. If you have certain sought after skills, you will be in demand! For example if you are skilled in sailing you could find a find a yacht job, what a fabulous way to earn money!
Here are some ideas of possible summer jobs.
Festival jobs
Summer is the season for festivals and music festivals are held all over the country and world. Festivals require a lot of staff for them to run smoothly, so there will be ample opportunity to find work. It’s a great way to see your favorite artists for free, whilst earning a bit of extra cash!
Fruit picking
Fruit picking is an excellent way to earn money whilst meeting new people. You will enjoy the freedom of being out in the fresh air and you will be able to travel whilst you are doing it. Head off to Australia and New Zealand picking exotic fruits and strawberries, or head off to the wine regions of the world for grape picking.
Summer camp activity jobs
If you enjoy working with children there are many summer camp jobs available around the world. The camps normally provide outdoor activities for the children and is a fun way to earn money. Normally your accommodation and food will be included. Working at a summer camp is great for your cv or college application.
Bar work
If you crave fun in the sun, you could travel anywhere in the world and find bar work. It will be long hours, but you can always sleep the following day under a shady palm tree! Try to seek work early in the season when work will be ample. You could consider travelling around whilst taking casual bar work where you visit. This would be a good way of funding travelling as well as make a little extra cash for saving.
Work at a theme park
Head off to some of the major theme parks in the world and find numerous work opportunities! Theme parks require large numbers of staff ranging from ride attendants, catering staff and even dressing up as a character. There is lots of choice.
Of course you could opt for a more secure position in the summer by getting shop work in your local town. But would you have as much fun?
